A trichologist is an expert in hair and scalp health. They specialize in the science and structure of all hair types and hair and scalp conditions. Trichologists can help patients with everything from female and male-pattern hair loss to symptoms of alopecia areata. There are different levels of trichology with a certified or registered trichologist or Board-Certified Trichologist being the most educated. There are also Trichologist Assistants, and Hair Loss Consultants.
Our practice aims to provide patients with the best results and overall experience possible. We accomplish this by focusing on the individual. Unlike many other clinics, we do not use sales representatives.

Hair growth is a continuous process. There are four stages of hair growth (see list below): anagen, catagen, telogen, and exogen. Each stage of the process lasts for a different amount of time, ranging from a couple of weeks to eight years for one strand of hair.
In the hair growth cycle, your hair goes through a cycle of shedding and new growth that is influenced by multiple factors like genetics and your haircare routine.
As cells multiply, they harden and stick together to create a full strand of hair extending from the hair follicle (a tube-shaped opening on the skin’s surface where hair grows).

There are a few different ways to treat hair loss, and what’s right for you will depend on what type of hair loss you have and your treatment goals.
When you’re exploring hair loss treatments, one thing to keep in mind is that even though male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness sound similar, they actually affect the hair in genetically different ways — and that means they can’t always be treated the same way. Hormonal alopecia, also known as androgenetic alopecia, is a common form of hair loss caused by hormonal changes and genetic factors. It affects both men and women. In men, this condition is often referred to as male-pattern baldness and is primarily driven by the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
In women, hormonal alopecia manifests as female-pattern hair loss, which usually results in overall thinning of hair rather than distinct bald patches.
- Post-partum alopecia is caused by the drop in estrogen levels following childbirth or the completion of nursing. This form of Alopecia often worsens with each birth and eventually becomes a genetically progressive loss.
Poor nutrition or weight loss can hinder the ability to absorb vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that are essential to maintaining a healthy scalp. When vegetarians cut out animal proteins, they can often experience hair loss, dullness, brittleness, and thinning. (more)

Inflammation is a complex biological response to harmful stimuli, such as pathogens, damaged cells, or irritants. It is a protective mechanism intended to eliminate the initial cause of cell injury and initiate tissue repair. However, when inflammation becomes chronic, it can lead to various health issues, including hair loss.
In the context of hair loss, inflammation can occur when the immune system mistakenly targets the hair follicles, the tiny organs in the skin where hair grows. This process is seen in conditions like alopecia areata, an autoimmune disorder characterized by sudden hair loss in patches. The inflammation can damage the hair follicles, disrupting their growth cycle and leading to hair loss.
Furthermore, certain skin conditions involving inflammation, such as psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis, can also contribute to hair loss.
