Diindolylmethane (DIM) supplements may offer health benefits, including a reduced risk of certain types of cancer and support for weight loss. However, more studies are needed to confirm its effectiveness.

Diindolylmethane (DIM) is a compound created when you digest cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli or Brussels sprouts.

Research suggests that DIM affects estrogen levels in your body. As a result, DIM supplements have been gaining popularity as a potential treatment for a variety of hormone-related conditions, including acne, menopause symptoms, prostate issues, and certain forms of cancer.

Still, you may wonder whether these uses are backed by scientific evidence.

Here is a comprehensive overview of DIM supplements, including their benefits and side effects.

New results from the landmark VITAL trial show that daily supplementation with 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 can significantly slow Telomere shortening—a key mechanism of cellular aging.

Telomeres are protective caps of DNA and protein at the ends of chromosomes, acting like plastic tips on shoelaces to prevent damage. With each cell division, telomeres naturally shorten, limiting a cell’s ability to divide and contributing to aging.

Among over 1,000 older adults tracked for four (4) years, those receiving Vitamin D lost 140 fewer DNA base pairs on average than those on placebo, equivalent to about three years of aging. The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study measured leukocyte telomere lengths at three time points and found a consistent protective trend in the Vitamin D group.

If there were a do-it-all nutrient award, it might go to magnesium. This trace mineral plays a critical role in helping your body function successfully. From being a component of our bones, it is also needed for over 300 enzymatic reactions in the human body.

Magnesium plays a crucial role in muscle contraction, blood vessel function, nerve function, and the formation of neurotransmitters. It also helps maintain a healthy heart rhythm.

The alarming news is, you might not be getting enough. If you’re deficient or simply running a lower-than-optimal level, it can have far-reaching consequences for your day-to-day well-being. For women under 30, the recommended daily intake is 310 milligrams (mg) and 320 mg for those older than 30. For men under 30, it’s 400 mg and 420 mg for those over 30.
